As we all know, making decisions can be hard; making the wrong decisions often leads to feeling unhappy. The term “buyer’s remorse” describes this feeling quite well and can be extended to other aspects of life, too.
The problem with decision-making generally is that we often focus on having only one possible option available to us. Psychologists refer to this as the ‘candy-shop syndrome’. We act (and feel) like a kid in a candy store who does not know what to buy with his coin and we become paralyzed from the variety and possibilities out there; If I decide to go with licorice, for example, I am deciding against all other possible options.
The lack in decisiveness leads to a deep feeling of unhappiness because we wanted everything and ended up getting nothing – or only very little.
There is a simple rule that helps in making good decisions: Listen to your intuition! The brain is an emotional organ, whose subconscious part processes information about 300,000 times faster than our consciousness can. Emotions are the sum of this gigantic, subconscious computing power and become the best guideline for making big and important decisions.
Trust your inner voice – because making the right decision in the end does indeed make us all the happier!
